First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church of Littlefield has been a part of the community since it was built in 1917. It has the distinction of being the first church to be built in Littlefield. It is located in the 1900 block of Hall Avenue.

Rev. Janne Brumbelow is the pastor. Worship services are held at 11:00 am on Sundays.

In 1914, the first moderator was Rev. J.H. Bone, minister of the Hale Center congregation. The finance committee raised $800 locally, which was matched with a grant of $1,000 from the Board of National Missions, and the early pioneers erected the first church building in Littlefield.

It was located at the corner of LFD Drive and Fifth Street on land donated by Major George W. Littlefield. Many other denominations used the building freely. In 1926, a pipe organ was installed as a gift from Mrs. A.P. Duggan.

Ministers who served the church during its first 24 years were: Rev. W.H. Jordan, C.A. Dugger, W.F. Fulton, and Hubert Travis. Rev. Don Harris from Princeton Theological Seminary was called to the pupit in July, 1938, and he remained with the church until December 1940. Dr. A.B. Haynes led the church through the World War II years, then Rev. Carter McCamy was pastor from 1947-51, when he helped establish a building fund. With the arrival of Rev. Henry Haupt, who was pastor from 1952-56, a new building was erected at the present location on Hall Avenue (Highway 385) on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. George White.

In 1964, the present sanctuary was completed, dedicated, and integrated into the previously completed education center and fellowship hall. The 1970s were led by Rev. Clem Sorley from 1971-75, Roger Martin from 1975-77, and Jon Riches from October 1977 until he retired. Ken Mott then became pastor, and Janne Brumbelow has been pastor since Mott left the church.
