Lamb County Veterans Memorial

The Lamb County Veterans Memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 2007. The project has been in the works for over three years, and is still being added to. It is located on Hall Avenue, in front of the Littlefield Community Center.

The memorial encompasses Veterans from all of Lamb County, including the communities of Amherst, Anton, Bainer Switch, Beck-Janes, Circleback, Cofferville, Earth, Fieldton, Friendship, Hart Camp, Littlefield, Lums Chapel, Olton, Pep, Rocky Ford, Spade, Springlake, and Sudan. It also includes all of the wars that the United States has served in, including World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and the War on Terrorism. The memorial also includes those who served during peacetime.

As you approach the Memorial, the names of each community are engraved on stones in front. Along the walkway towards the Memorial entrance are stones engraved with the names of local sponsors. The entrance archway is inscribed with an eagle flying under three stars, followed by "Lamb County Veterans Memorial. We Honor All Our Veterans." Below this statement are the seals of each branch of the United States Military, followed by "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13". The interior of the archway lists war casualties on one side and prisoners of war on the other.

At the center of the memorial is a large star made of brown pebbles. Surrounding the star are pillars upon which the names of those who have served our country are inscribed. There are fourteen pillars, each covered front and back with names, with the exception of the pillar on the far right which has room to allow further inscriptions from the War on Terrorism. Each pillar states at the top which war it represents. Scattered throughout the Memorial are memorial benches, engraved with sayings and quotations from loved ones regarding those they have lost.

The Memorial is surrounded by bricks purchased by loved ones of Veterans. The Memorial is completed by Patriotic music playing softly in the backgrond.
