The mission of the Littlefield Volunteer Fire Department shall be the protection of lives and property from fire, hazardous materials, natural disasters, and other emergencies. This purpose is achieved by maintaining an organized force of volunteers trained, equipped, and qualified to respond to such situations. The Littlefield Volunteer Fire Department exists to augment the personnel of the Littlefield Fire Department, and in response to fires, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies, to be fully integrated into the Littlefield Fire Department to allow unified, coordinated, and integrated response, functioning together as one.
The Littlefield Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1924 and is classified as a combination department. It is the first responder for approximately 340 square miles of Lamb County's 911 response area. The City of Littlefield has an ISO rating of 6.
The Littlefield Volunteer Fire Department is a member of the Texas Emergency Services Retirement System, thus allowing its members pension benefits through the TESRS. With the exception of holidays, the Volunteer Fire Department holds a monthly meeting ont he first Monday of every month and in-house fire training on every second, third, and fourth Monday starting at 7:00 pm.
The department is staffed with three full-time paid professional firemen, certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. The department currently has 21 volunteer firefighters certified by the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals Association of Texas.
All emergency calls are dispatched through the Lamb County 9-1-1 system located in the Littlefield Police Department, with a backup dispatch system through the Lamb County Sheriff's office.
EMERGENCY SERVICES INCLUDE: fire suppression, extrication / rescue responses, and hazardous materials responses
NON-EMERGENCY SERVICES INCLUDE: fire safety survey program, target hazard pre-plans, public fire education and demonstrations, fire and life safety inspections, fire / arson investigations, public education and awareness, and serving as storm spotters for the City of Littlefield in times of severe weather
